The EU Sanctions Helpdesk supports European operators in complying with restrictive measures
The EU Sanctions Helpdesk, launched in 2025, is a new and valuable resource for businesses needing guidance on sanctions compliance and due diligence. Set up on behalf of the European Commission and funded by the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), the Helpdesk is part of the wider project “Support to EU SMEs on EU Sanctions Due Diligence.” Its primary goal is to help companies – especially small and medium-sized enterprises – navigate the complex landscape of both UN and EU restrictive measures, ensuring they meet legal obligations and avoid costly compliance errors.
At the centre of the Helpdesk’s offering is its personalised Support Service. This service connects businesses directly with a team of sanctions experts, providing tailored advice and support for sanctions due diligence checks. Whether dealing with a specific transaction or understanding a new set of regulations, users benefit from one-to-one exchanges that address their unique compliance questions. Such direct access to expert guidance is especially valuable for smaller organisations that may not have in-house sanctions expertise.
Beyond personalised support, the Helpdesk provides a wealth of curated content to help demystify sanctions compliance. This includes practical guides, success stories, lessons learned, news updates, and even podcasts. Together, these resources help companies stay informed about the latest developments and best practices in the world of sanctions regulation. The platform also hosts a comprehensive directory of relevant EU and third-party resources, making it easier for compliance professionals to find authoritative information when conducting due diligence.
The Helpdesk also actively engages with the business community through events like trainings, conferences, and seminars. These events offer opportunities for participants to deepen their understanding of sanctions compliance, ask questions, and exchange experiences with peers and experts. The Helpdesk also welcomes collaboration with public authorities, industry groups, financial institutions, and international organizations. Joint activities can include event participation, cross-promotion, content production, and training sessions.
By offering expert support, regularly updated resources, and opportunities for collaboration and training, the EU Sanctions Helpdesk helps businesses in Luxembourg and across Europe minimise risks and maintain confidence in their compliance efforts.
